Russia ranked 27th among 158 countries in terms of readiness to develop advanced technologies

Russia ranked 27th among 158 countries in terms of readiness to develop advanced technologies, according to a Geneva report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The leaders were the USA, Switzerland and the UK, while Yemen, Gambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo were the last on the list.

The index was based on UNCTAD's index. This is based on five factors that characterize the "capacity to utilize, adopt and adapt advanced technologies". These are the level of information and communication technology (ICT) use in the country, skills and knowledge, research and development (R&D), industrial activities and financing opportunities.

The index of our country had 0.75 points. However, by the level of R&D Russia ranked 11th, by the level of skills and knowledge - 28th, by use of ICT - 39th.

Also the Russian Federation was on the 45th place by opportunities for financing and on the 66th place by industrial activity.

The average score for all countries is 0.44.
