Media: tax on global IT companies may be introduced in Russia

Russia may introduce a tax on the activities of global IT companies, Vedomosti reports.

Such companies, according to media reports, will be charged an additional fee in case of application of information of Russian citizens and in formation of advertising policy on the territory of the country. The funds raised from the tax will be used to support the Russian IT-industry.

Representatives of major associations, which unite IT-companies, said that the introduction of taxes for foreign IT-companies is a global trend. Such a measure, according to experts, helps to stimulate the domestic industry.

For example, the director of the Association of Electronic Communications Sergei Plugotarenko expressed confidence that the relevant ministry, together with the Government shall approach the choice of tax regimes for "digital" in our country in a balanced and comprehensive manner. This, according to him, is clearly evidenced by the events around the "tax maneuver" and other measures to stimulate the industry, writes TASS.

According to the President of the Russoft Association Valentin Makarov, now the global Internet corporations are trying to dominate the whole areas all over the world at the expense of their own dominating positions of the world aggregators. At the same time, the digital tax is among the measures that help create a level playing field for business, including the advertising industry.
