The Ministry of Agriculture has come up with an initiative to set fixed prices for the main types of mineral fertilizers in the country for at least 2-3 months until the spring sowing campaign begins. Such a statement was made by Dmitry Patrushev, head of the ministry.

He said that the following formula is proposed as the price base - the fair price is equal to the average level of 2019 plus the projected inflation rate for this year.

At the same time, the minister pointed out that, in general, the deficit of fertilizers is not predicted now. Thus, according to preliminary calculations, the volume of purchase in 2021 will be half a million tons higher compared to 2020 and will amount to 4.5 million tons.

"A significant proportion of this is the carryover from 2020," Patrushev explained.

Farmers now need to buy another 1.4 million tons for spring field work. The agency expects this year's application rate to reach 55 kilograms per hectare of arable land, or 5 kilograms more than last year.
