The prototype satellite-server of domestic production may be launched into orbit at the end of next year, said Nikita Tsaplin, managing partner of the cloud provider RUVDS.

The Russian companies Orbital Express and RUVDS were engaged in the development. The first company develops satellites and the launch system. The second organization provides data processing and server storage services.

As Tsaplin said, specialists have already started creating electronics this year, with pre-flight testing to start at the end of the year. And in 2022 it will be tested inside the satellite platform.

The main purpose of the project is an experiment with the help of which it will be possible to determine the difficulties arising from space conditions, such as communication limitations, said Vitaly Egorov, director of communications of the company "Orbital Express".

The volumes of the server itself will not be sold and used for commercial clients, he stressed.
