State Duma allows farmers and private entrepreneurs to produce champagne and wine

Russian farmers and individual entrepreneurs (PE) will be able to make wines and champagne with a protected appellation of origin. The corresponding bill was approved in the State Duma on Wednesday.

It is a document that regulates the production of domestic wine products. It clarifies and defines new terms in the field of winemaking, for example, introduces the definition of Russian cognac.

In addition, the bill allows farms and private entrepreneurs to produce wine and champagne with a protected appellation of origin. In order to be engaged in these activities, such farmers need to meet several conditions. For instance, they will be able to sell retail products only in stationary production facilities in those places where alcoholic beverages are produced.

According to the explanatory note, the document should stimulate the development of domestic viticulture and winemaking.
