Moscow ranked second in Europe in the ranking of ecosystems for startups

The Russian capital has improved its position in the international ranking of ecosystems for startups Global Startup Ecosystem Index among European cities, having risen to second place. The ranking was compiled by the Swiss-Israeli research center StartupBlink.

First place in the list went to London and the third place went to Paris. A year earlier, the Russian capital was in third place.

"Moscow came second in Europe, ahead of strong competitors - Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. The leadership was helped by the city's technology sector development programmes. We have not stopped them, despite the pandemic," said Natalia Sergunina, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow, adding that the authorities will continue to support innovators by subsidies, consultations, new services, educational and infrastructure projects.

StartupBlink annually compiles ecosystem ranking for start-ups on the basis of the database, which includes more than a thousand cities, 70 thousand start-ups, two thousand co-working places and 800 accelerators all over the world. In determining the leaders, the number and quality of innovative companies, innovative infrastructure facilities and the amount of investment are taken into account.

In the global rating, Moscow entered the top 10 megacities, taking the ninth place, leaving behind Tokyo, New Delhi, Seoul and Chicago. San Francisco, New York and Beijing are in the top 3, according to mos.ru.
