Companies from Moscow exported sports goods to almost 50 countries in 2020

Moscow manufacturers have sent abroad sporting goods to the amount of 17.06 million US dollars, which is one third of the all-Russian exports of these products. The geography of exports numbers 49 countries, said Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

"Export of shells and equipment for sports and outdoor activities is 33.5% of the total volume of supplies, it is about 5.72 million U.S. dollars. Among the leaders in exports are also exercise equipment, with an increase of almost 31%, and adjustable weight machines, whose exports rose by 8.5%. Increased supply of these categories of goods, in particular, is associated with the spread of the trend to exercise at home" - said the deputy mayor, whose words are cited on the website of the mayor's office mos.ru.

According to the Center of Export Support and Development "Mosprom", the main importers of Moscow sports equipment in 2020 was Kazakhstan, which accounts for 45% of the capital's exports worth 7.69 million, and Belarus - 27.7% for 4.73 million dollars.

Sporting goods from Moscow are imported by the Netherlands, Germany, Uzbekistan, Poland, China and Moldova. Last year, Moscow began exporting sporting goods to Taiwan for the first time, a total of 25.58 thousand dollars was delivered.

By the end of the first quarter of 2021, Moscow has exported sports equipment to 34 countries. According to Mosprom Center analysts, the capital's products were supplied to only 29 countries during the same period in 2020.

"This year, exports of categories of goods for sports outside gyms, such as exercise equipment and simulators, continue to grow. The growth compared to the first quarter of 2020 was 27.8% and 4.1% respectively. In total by the end of the first quarter of 2021, Moscow exports of sports equipment amounted to 3.96 million U.S. dollars, which corresponds to the volume of the same period last year, "- said the head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow, Alexander Prokhorov.

The global demand for sports and active recreation products grew significantly last year. According to Euromonitor International, by the end of 2020, global sales of sports goods amounted to $5.54 billion, which is 8.4% more than a year earlier, the mayor's office noted. At the same time, 2019 saw a negative trend in sales of these products: compared to 2018, global sales decreased by 3.2% (2019 - $5.11 billion).
