Samara breeder awarded with the gold medal named after Lukyanenko Lukyanenko

The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) has awarded breeder Pyotr Malchikov, an employee of the Samara Research Institute of Agriculture named after Tulaykov, with a gold medal named after Pavel Lukyanenko. As the National Agrarian Agency reports, he has developed 17 sorts of wheat.

It is known that Malchikov conducted a series of works on "Theory and practice of breeding of spring durum wheat. Of the 17 varieties bred, 13 are already actively used by farmers. The area under crops is one million hectares. The characteristics of wheat are high; it is used to make pasta which is popular in Russia.

Pavel Lukyanenko is a Hero of Socialist Labor, a native of Krasnodar region. He bred 46 varieties of wheat, 25 of which were released. Among the unique varieties of his breeding is the famous "Bezostaya 1".
