Bakers warned of price increase in August

Prices for bakery products are expected to rise in Russia in August. According to Kommersant, bakeries have already warned retailers about the price change by 7-12%.

According to Alexey Lyalin, President of the Russian Union of Bakers, the price hikes will be associated with an increase in the cost of production.

Thus, the price of margarine has gone up by 38%, packing materials - by 26%, sugar - by 9%.

Experts also explained that the state support, provided to bakers at the end of 2020, does not take into account the rising cost of raw materials, so some manufacturers have decided to abandon them in order to avoid bankruptcy.

However, the Ministry of Agriculture said that they do not expect a significant increase in the price of bakery products. The agency assured that the cost of third and fourth class wheat after the introduction of customs duties fell by 7.2% and 5.9%, respectively. As of July 16, 47.6% of funds allocated for bakeries to stabilize prices have been used, the ministry said.
