Forecasters predicted in which regions the harvest will suffer from drought

The harvest in the Volga region will especially suffer due to the deficit of precipitation this summer, but the gross harvest across the country is forecast good, RIA Novosti writes with reference to the scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Wilfand.

According to Wilfand, May and June were dry in Tatarstan, where there was less than 60% of precipitation, and for two decades in July - about 40%. In Ulyanovsk oblast, for two months - May and June - there was 80% of precipitation and for two decades of July - 37%. He also noted dry weather in Bashkortostan, where in two months there was less than 50% of precipitation over two decades, and in July for two decades has not been significantly replenished.

In addition, drought has been reported in Sverdlovsk region, but the situation is slightly improving. In Chelyabinsk region only 45% of the norm for two decades has fallen.

"It is very dry in the south. In Kurgan region only 20% in two months. This is a severe drought and it is impossible to replenish," Wilfand noted.

According to the head of the Hydrometeorological Center, lower yields are expected in these regions. However, due to the vast territories in Russia, the forecast of the total gross harvest of the country will be confirmed at 124-126 million tons.
