A plant for sorting, processing and burying household waste with a capacity of 90 thousand tons will be built in the Magadan region by 2023. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Environmental Operator (REO).

It is known that within the framework of the project a facility for production of alternative fuel will be built, which will allow, inter alia, replacing some imported fuel, the cost of which is extremely high today.

It will also make it possible to modernize the heat supply system in the region.

The estimated cost of the project amounts to about 3 billion roubles. The investment volume is 2.7 billion roubles. The project will be implemented on the basis of the concession agreement with the participation of REO - in the form of the bonded loan repurchase.

Now 140 thousand people live in the Magadan Oblast. The annual volume of generated MSW reaches 75.7 thousand tons. As of June 2021 the collection rate in the subject constitutes 92.18%. There are two solid waste disposal sites in the region - a temporary landfill in Omchak and a solid waste landfill in the Omsukchan settlement.
