The Ministry of Economic Development told us how many Russians are employed in the creative industries

In Russia, about 10% of companies belong to the creative industries sector. As Tatyana Ilyushnikova, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, noted, they employ more than 1.5 million people.

"We have defined OKVED (All-Russian Classifier of Economic Activities) and recalculated legal entities. There are about 10% of them related to the creative industries sector. And officially there are 1,5 mln people working in those companies", - she was quoted by TASS as saying.

According to her, the potential for the development of the sector in Russia is enormous, and the government agencies should "learn to cooperate and work with this sector to give it a worthy place in the country's economy.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister noted that the creative industries are growing faster than traditional sectors in the global economy, by about 10-15% per year.

It will be recalled that the creative industry is a (relatively) new economy, which creates products and services of both cultural value and commercial potential. Now it includes design, art, IT, music and sound-design, science and technology, television, fashion, education, marketing, game development and computer graphics, publishing and journalism, new media, cinema, architecture and urban planning.

In July of this year, the Russian Ministry of Culture submitted for public discussion a draft law that would enshrine the concepts of "creative industries" and "creative entrepreneurship".
