Rosselkhoznadzor found virus pathogens in peaches and nectarines from Georgia

Rosselkhoznadzor has detected a virus pathogen in peaches and nectarines imported into Russia from Georgia.

In this regard, the agency held talks with representatives of the National Food Agency of Georgia.

"The Russian side reported its concern in connection with the increasing number of cases of detection of quarantine objects for the EAEU in plant products imported into the Russian Federation from Georgia. For the first time the causative agent of the dangerous quarantine disease of brown moniliosis rot (Monilinia fructicola) was detected in Georgian products entering the Russian Federation. In three cases, symptoms of disease were detected in nectarines, in one case - in peaches," - the statement says.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the volume of nectarines supply in 2021 is almost equal to the total amount of products by the end of 2020 - 14 thousand tons.

In accordance with the legislation of the Eurasian Economic Union, the agency called for measures to prevent future deliveries of contaminated products to Russia, as well as to inform on the results of the investigation into the causes of the incident.

"The Georgian side promised to send all the necessary materials in the near future, as well as expand the program of state phytosanitary monitoring to fully cover the areas of crops intended for export to Russia, refrigerators and warehouses," it said.
