A neuro-implant project to restore vision will be developed in the Far East

Sensor-Tech laboratory has developed Russia's first neuro-implant for restoring vision to the blind, ELVIS. The project will be developed in the Far East with the assistance of scientists and doctors from the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Medical Centre, the Roscongress Foundation told us.

Agreements on the development of the project were concluded by the laboratory at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.

"With the support of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), the laboratory team met with representatives of Primorye, Amur region, Trans-Baikal and Yakutia. The parties discussed implementation of artificial intelligence and neuroimplants in medical practice, as well as attracting investments into the ELVIS project. <...> Sensor-Tech's participation in the Innovation Science and Technology Center (ISTC) Russkiy and engagement of leading scientists and doctors of FEFU medical center in the ELVIS project will be the first steps in this direction," the statement says.

It is planned that the results of the first year of joint work will be presented at the next WEF in 2022.

"For our project this is the first experience of participation in the WEF, and thanks to the ASI's help we managed to form a very dense business program. We have plans to enter Asian markets with our technologies, so we need reliable partners and infrastructure in the Far East," said Denis Kuleshov, Director of the Sensor-Tech laboratory.

ELVIS Neuroimplant was included in the top 100 projects of the "Strong Ideas for New Times" forum organized by the ASI and Roscongress. Now ELVIS is being monitored by the agency as a leadership project.
