Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government and the State Duma to update legislation with regard to quotas on harmful emissions.

"Ensure the introduction of amendments to the Russian legislation that provide for the necessity of equipping stationary sources of emissions of priority pollutants located at quota facilities with automatic control systems for emissions of such substances," the document reads.

In particular, by December 31, 2022 such measures shall be taken in the urban settlements and districts where an experiment on quotas for emissions of pollutants into the air is carried out starting from January 1, 2020.

In places that will be included in the experiment after January 1, 2022, this must be done within one year after approval of the list of quota objects.

The deadline is set for April 1, 2022.
