Import-substituting production of pigmented titanium dioxide will appear near Tomsk

An import-substituting production of pigmented titanium dioxide will be created in Tomsk region, the press service of Rosatom's fuel division TVEL reported.

"The creation of industrial production of titanium dioxide is an important step for import substitution in the Russian chemical industry," said Mikhail Metelkin, head of the company's Special Chemicals business area.

The production technology was developed by Tomsk scientists. Unlike the existing analogues of chloride and sulfate technology, it is practically waste-free. According to the specialists' estimations the new production will be able to cover from 10% to 15% of the Russian market demand for pigment titanium dioxide.

The capacity of the plant will amount to 10 thousand tons per year.

The substance is used in the production of paints, plastics, laminated paper, and is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food industries.
